Talk
Wednesday 26th October 2011
7.30pm-9.30pm
The Health Benefits of Compassion and Kindness
During this informative and inspiring talk, Dr. David R.Hamilton, will share some scientific evidence of how compassion and kindness can affect our mental and emotional health, elevate our happiness levels – and can even physically impact the brain.
He will discuss the impact on the heart and blood vessels, sharing evidence for how kindness is ‘cardioprotective’ (protects the heart).
We will also learn about the relationship between compassion and the aging process and why compassion has been linked with slower aging.
David says, “Ageing on a biochemical level is a combination of many things; but two culprits that speed the process are Free Radicals and Inflammation – both of which result from making unhealthy lifestyle choices.
Remarkable research now shows that oxytocin (that we produce through emotional warmth) reduces levels of free radicals and inflammation in the cardiovascular system and so slows ageing at source. Incidentally these two culprits also play a major role in heart disease, so this is also another reason why kindness is good for the heart.”
David will end the evening with a few inspiring stories of kindness.
